Manipur Guv, CM Biren extend ‘Gaan Ngai’ greetings

Governor Uikey said, “Kabui community celebrates the "Gaan Ngai" which is the 'Festival of Winter Season for paying obeisance and homage to those departed souls who left this temporal world in the year before”.

Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey and Chief Minister, N Biren Singh greeted the people of the state, especially the Kabui community on the joyous and auspicious occasion of Gaan Ngai, 2024.

In her message, Governor Uikey said, “Kabui community celebrates the “Gaan Ngai” which is the ‘Festival of Winter Season for paying obeisance and homage to those departed souls who left this temporal world in the year before”.

“The festival also symbolizes bidding adieu to the old year gone by and heralding a New Year, full of hope and aspiration. I am also happy to know that one positive development over the years is that the festival along with its religious fervour has become a major cultural event of not only the Kabui community but of other communities as well”.

“Let us all join the celebration of Gaan Ngai in a spirit of friendship and brotherhood with traditional gaiety and devotion and ring in the New Year for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur”.

Chief Minister Biren Singh said that as the state passes through a tough phase, the thanksgiving spirit of the festival has a special relevance today.

“This relevance is that of the enduring human resilience in the face of challenges for the preservation and survival of a community. May the biggest cultural and religious post-harvest festival of the Zeliangrong community spread the message of unity, love and brotherhood amongst all the communities in our State”, he added.
