Imphal: Governor of Manipur La. Ganesan said human resource development is vital to a nation’s strength while progress, prosperity, and education are its key elements.

Ganesan was speaking during the presentation of the Governor’s Award and R.K. Sanatombi Devi Award at Asha Jina Complex, here on Thursday organized by Rajkumari Sanatombi Educational Institutions, Manipur.

Education is to inculcate among the students the ability to think and apply the knowledge they acquire in classrooms in solving social problems, the Governor said. He said the responsibility of imparting knowledge and education rests with the teachers who are considered to be moral guardians, friends, philosophers, and guides in moulding the character of students.

The students have to acquire knowledge, skill, and education to enable them to shoulder the responsibilities to be reposed in them by society. It is therefore imperative for all of us to do everything possible to inspire, encourage and support the students so that they are enabled to play a meaningful and determining role in the nation’s future, he added.

Governor further said that our education should not only emphasize access to global knowledge but should also uphold the richness of our culture and values. Education should stimulate all aspects of human intellectual potential. It is equally important to ensure that the students are equipped with core values needed to live as responsible citizens in complex democratic societies, he added.

Education Minister Th. Basanta Kumar Singh said education is not just being literate but understanding the world around us. He said students should have the courage to stand and speak their viewpoints and also should be good listeners. They should believe their teachers, mentors, guardians, and also their elders. This will help them to develop good discipline and good habits which will help in their future, he added.
