Imphal: On Wednesday, Anusuiya Uikey, the Governor of Manipur, flagged off an ambulance for the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Senapati District branch from Raj Bhavan in Imphal. The ambulance was donated by the Governor herself.
Addressing the IRCS members and media, Governor Uikey noted that there had been a longstanding demand for an ambulance for the Senapati district branch. Recognizing its necessity, she decided to donate the ambulance to aid the people in both the Senapati and Kangpokpi districts.
The Governor praised the efforts of the IRCS team, highlighting their dedication to humanitarian services. She commended their role in assisting those affected by violence in Manipur, and expressed confidence that IRCS would continue to serve the people of the state.
She mentioned that IRCS has distributed relief materials such as tarpaulins, mosquito nets, blankets, hygiene kits, and kitchen sets at various relief camps in both the hills and the valley.
Governor Uikey recalled her meeting with the President of India, other State Governors, and the Union Health Minister. During the meeting, she had requested the President to extend all possible assistance to Manipur in light of the conflict that erupted in May of the previous year. The President accepted her request, resulting in the receipt of 11 trucks laden with relief materials.
Regarding the recent floods that caused significant damage in many parts of the state, the Governor mentioned that IRCS is working to reach the affected people and that relief materials will be distributed once they arrive in Imphal.
The ceremony was attended by A. Nabachandra, State Secretary of IRCS; R.S. Avel, Member of the IRCS State Management Committee; Benjamin Tao, Chairman of the IRCS Senapati branch; and other IRCS members.
