Imphal: A full dress rehearsal for the 76th State-level Republic Day celebration took place on Friday morning at the historic Kangla Fort in Imphal. Major Aditya Mahalwal, ADC to Governor AK Bhalla, presided over the event, hoisting the flag and taking the salute from various participating contingents.
The parade featured a wide range of groups, including Ex-Servicemen, the Sikh Regiment, the Assam Rifles band, BSF, CRPF, a combined team of Manipur Police from all districts, Manipur Rifles, the India Reserve Battalion (IRB), Nagaland Police, Home Guards, NCC scouts, and students from several colleges, including Sainik School. The parade was led by Laishram Sarita, SP, MPS, and world boxing champion.
Following the march-past, a dynamic display of mass physical training was presented by around 100-member unarmed combat team from the IRB. Cultural performances followed, with students from institutions such as the Centre for Cultural Promotion in Keirenphabi, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Kha Manipur, and the Star Musical Centre in Khurai showcasing vibrant patriotic programs. The performances highlighted the diverse traditions of various communities, including the Meitei.
After the rehearsal, Manipur’s Director General of Police, Rajiv Singh, and Major Aditya Mahalwal held a meeting with officials to finalize the preparations for the upcoming state-level Republic Day celebration.
