Imphal: A joint team of Chandel District Police, 8 MR Leikun along with administrative support of 15th AR of Khongtal COB led by SDPO Chandel under the supervision of SP destroyed poppy plants spread over 35 (thirty-five) acres at Kholmunlen and Khongtal area in Chakpikrong Sub-division at Indo-Myanmar border on Thursday.
During the destruction drive, poppy juice (Opium) approximately weighing about 2.500 Kgs packed in plastic polythene was also recovered from a hut, more than 10 huts were also burnt down.
The joint team has been camping at COB 15th AR Khongtal and will continue to do so till the task is completed, said a press note from the PRO, Manipur Police.
On Wednesday (January 4), a team of KPI district police, NAB, Forest department and SDO Saikul carried out poppy destruction in Pangjang village, Saikul, Kangpokpi district.
The combined team destroyed around 15 (fifteen) acres of poppy plantation. A regular case has been registered in this regard, for further investigation, the press note continued.
In continuation of the poppy destruction drive carried out on December 30, 2022, in the hill range of Sehjang village by a combined team. On Thursday (January 5), the district police Kangpokpi arrested Satlal Khongsai (57yrs) son of Dempao Khongsai, Chief of S. Saikot village, IT Road, Kangpokpi District, and Satkhohao Kipgen (36 yrs) son of Ngamthang Kipgen, Chief of Kholen village, 8 miles, chawangkining, Kangpokpi District.
A regular case has been registered in this regard at KPI-PS for further investigation, the press noted added.
