Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh warned on Monday individuals or any group against brandishing illegal firearms and roaming the streets.

No one, other than state machinery, can take the law into their hands. The government will not remain silent spectators and will take stringent action as per the law, the chief minister said while addressing a mammoth crowd at Haj Complex, Lilong Karampat during a Mass Congregation on the Development of Lilong under Thoubal district on Monday.

Biren’s statement assumed significance as huge cases of kidnapping, looting and sometimes killing were reported in different parts of the valley during the last few weeks.

Highlighting various schemes implemented by his government like the Go to Village and Go to Hills, the Chief Minister observed that these schemes have brought governance to the doorsteps of the common people and bridged the gap between the people.

He said that the present government believes in equal development, and has been working towards building a unified Manipur.

The government, the Chief Minister said, is not against any communities which have been residing together in the State. The government has never asked any of these communities to leave the State. They (communities) should live together peacefully in unity like different flowers in a garden.

Further seeking the support of the communities and their leaders, the Chief Minister also said that he is in constant touch with community leaders to restore normalcy.

He further urged the Meitei Pangal leaders to support the government in its endeavour to check the influx of illegal foreigners.
