Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated a training center and three night shelters for Building and Other Construction (BOC) workers on Thursday. The event was organized by the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, under the Department of Skills, Labour, Employment & Entrepreneurship, Government of Manipur, at ITI, Takyelpat, Imphal.

During his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s unwavering support for the working class since the BJP came to power in the state. He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a project worth approximately Rs 150 crore has been approved for the construction of working women’s hostels at 10 different locations across the state. Additionally, Rs 10 crore has been allocated for the construction of a skill development centre for youth in Takyel.

He also mentioned the “One Family, One Livelihood” scheme, which provides loans of up to Rs 10 lakh with a 30% subsidy to support the weaker sections of society, encouraging people to take advantage of the scheme to improve their standard of living.

The Chief Minister commended Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh for his significant role in securing a project worth Rs 400 crore for repairing flood-damaged roads, sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. He also stated that the free distribution of fortified rice under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) would continue until 2028.

Recognizing the challenge of providing government jobs for all educated youth, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of skill-based training to enhance employability. Priority will be given to youths displaced from their homes. He also expressed concern over the rising cases of dengue in the state, urging people to take precautions.

In his closing remarks, the Chief Minister assured the public that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and called for unity to resolve the state’s ongoing crisis.

In his presidential address, Heikham Dingo Singh, Minister for Skill, Labour, Employment & Entrepreneurship, noted that although the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board was established in 2010, it became fully functional only after N. Biren Singh’s government took office. He described the inauguration of the training center and night shelters as a significant achievement, emphasizing the government’s efforts to alleviate hardships during the current crisis and calling for public support in restoring peace.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including ministers, the Advocate General, MLAs, the Chairman of the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, and officials from the Department of Labour, Employment & Entrepreneurship.
