Manipur CM distributes benefits to labour card holds

One should join politics to do something for the betterment of the land and its people, N Biren Singh added.

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh distributed benefits to labour card holders under a special scheme for providing financial assistance for the education of children of labour cardholders staying at relief camps in a programme held at Durbar Hall, Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Imphal on Wednesday. The Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board organised the function under the Department of Skills, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Government of Manipur.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister stated, “We should not indulge in petty politics rather we should work with concerted efforts during this crucial period”. One should join politics to do something for the betterment of the land and its people. He added that a politician should have the courage to stand firmly for the cause of the State and its people.

The Chief Minister said, a total of Rs 2,89,10,000 was disbursed to around 5225 persons through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) today. A sum of Rs. 5000 has been provided as one time to every family having a valid labour card and staying in the relief camps (IDPs).

He praised the Minister and Department officials for taking such initiatives to assist the inmates residing in relief camps with transparency and accountability. The Chief Minister mentioned that the BJP-led government had launched various citizen-centric schemes for the welfare of the people. He further stated that the government launched Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) on 21st January 2018 after considering the hardships faced by the poor and needy people in medical treatment.

Similarly, Chief Minister Sotharabasin-gi Tengbang was launched for the welfare and development of the differently-able persons of the state. Under School Fagathansi mission, children of the labour card holders residing in relief camps are being provided free education in government schools.

N. Biren Singh said, under Chief Minister gi Artistes singi Tengbang (CMAT) scheme, monthly pension is being provided to around 900 artistes. Thousands of families have benefited under ‘One Family One Livelihood Scheme’, he added. He further stated that around 500 youths would be provided skills training at Delhi for cabin crew placements. The funding for the training will be borne by the Ministry of Tourism and the priority will be given to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). He said, around 17 Start Ups have already employed around 432 IDPs.

The Chief Minister said that the government has been extending all possible assistance in shifting people affected by the conflict to safer places. In the Phubala area, prefabricated houses have been constructed by the government. And people have been moved to houses located at a safer place. Around 2500 prefabricated houses have been occupied. 

The program was attended by the Forest Minister Th. Biswajit Singh, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, CAF & PD Minister Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, Education Minister Th. Basantakumar Singh, MLAs, Chairperson, Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board K. Saratkumar Singh, Deputy Labour Commissioner Tanushree Naorem, officials of the department and inmates of relief camps among others.
