Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh distributed advanced prosthetic devices including State-of-the-Art Myoelectric Hands and Motorized Wheelchairs, for persons with Disabilities (PwDs) at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.
The programme was organized by the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD), Manipur in collaboration with the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), Manipur.
Addressing the function, the Chief Minister stated that after the formation of BJP led government in 2017, the government has been launching various schemes to aid the marginal section of the society and to assist the persons with disability. He spoke on schemes including Chief Minister-gi Hakselgi Tengbang (CMHT), Chief Minister-gi Sotharabasingi Tengbang and School Fagathansi Mission among others.
Biren Singh added that under Chief Minister-gi Sotharabasingi Tengbang scheme, a sum of Rs 1500 each has been provided to around 9000 disabled persons as a part of assistance.
The Chief Minister maintained that the government had been working continuously for the welfare of its people and would consistently put all efforts to help meet the needs of the people. He added that the government has been extending assistance to the disabled persons and would continue to support.
As a human being, we must respect and treat every human equally without being biased, he said.
The Chief Minister instructed the Director, Social Welfare Department and other officials of the department present during the function to provide further assistance to persons with disabilities, making them economically viable and able to earn for their living, he added.
During the programme, two motorized wheelchairs and five myoelectric hands were distributed to the disabled persons present today.
The programme was attended by Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh, Veterinary Minister Khashim Vashum, MLA of Lamlai AC Khongbantabam Ibomcha Singh and other officials among others.
