Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has called for peace after three people, including a state security personnel, were killed in a land dispute in Ukhrul district on Wednesday.
In a statement issued late at night, the Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, which claimed the lives of two civilians and one Manipur Rifles personnel, while leaving many others injured.
“I am deeply pained to report the unfortunate violence in and around Ukhrul district headquarters today, which resulted in the loss of three lives and caused injuries to several others,” Singh stated.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. The Chief Minister assured that the district administration and police, in collaboration with local MLAs, are taking all necessary steps to manage the situation and provide care for the injured and their families.
Singh further stated that the government would offer compensation and financial assistance to the families of the deceased, as well as to those injured. He also confirmed that the injured are receiving appropriate medical treatment in both Imphal and Ukhrul.
Calling for cooperation from all stakeholders, including the public, to restore peace and normalcy, Singh stressed the need to prevent such incidents in the future. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to resolving issues through dialogue and mutual understanding while warning that those responsible for inciting violence would face strict action.
It may be noted three people were killed including a personnel of the 6th Manipur Rifles after an altercation broke out between two villages of Hunphun and Hungpung early Wednesday morning.
