Imphal: People of Manipur celebrated Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba, beginning of new lunar calendar.
These festivals of happiness strengthen the spirit of social harmony and brotherhood in our society, Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey said.
“We also express our gratitude to nature through these festivals,” she said.
“May these festivals bind different communities of India in bonds of love, harmony and affection and bring happiness and prosperity for all,” President Droupadi Murmu in a message said.
President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister N Biren Singh greeted the people on the occasion.
Most families organised feasts and women presented gifts to their parents and brothers. People also climbed nearby hills after the feast.
The Governor said, New Year is an occasion for the people to rejoice and look forward to the future with hope. It is time for making resolutions to usher in a year of peace and harmony in the State.
She said the advent of the New Year will further cement the bond of friendship among the different communities in the State.
The governor urged all to rededicate themselves once again to the promotion of peace and harmony in the State for making a better Manipur,”.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh also greeted the people on the occasion and wished that the New Year may fill people with positivity and zeal to turn dreams into reality and efforts into achievements.
