Imphal: The 41st General Conference of Maram Students’ Union/Maralui Karalimei Swijoikang (MKS) was kicked off Saturday at Maram Khullen Village in Senapati District. The conference was opened by Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Minister of Health & IPR, after the unfurling of the union’s flag.
Ranjan Singh, speaking as the chief guest, said that the students of this age should not miss out on any single benefit of learning. Students should be aware of the ill effects of imbalances caused by various factors. He appealed to the students to extend their support to the government in its stand on the war on drugs.
They must also play an important role in spreading awareness in the community through their wisdom and learning, according to the minister.
The Minister maintained that the state has improved in many sectors during the past few years under the able leadership of the present Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh. The road connectivity, telecommunications system, tourism prospects, law and order situation, health system, etc. have all improved. The uniqueness of the state has also attracted outsiders with the intention to visit and explore the beauty of the state. “We should be proud to be sons of the soil,” he said.
Delegates from various locations gathered for the occasion, which included a showcase of cultural performances and songs. Dignitaries of different categories were also present on the opening day of the general conference. K. Raisong, President of Maram Union, Francis Ngajokpa, former Minister, K. Raina, former Deputy Speaker, also attended the occasion as special guests.
The village chief, local leaders, students’ leaders, delegates from Nagaland, and representatives from different parts also attended the occasion. Discourse and academic sessions were also organised during the afternoon session.
The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, extended his warm wishes to the gatherings virtually through video conference, even if he could not be physically present at the occasion.
