Manipur: 173 acres of illegal poppy plantation destroyed in various districts

Imphal: A combined team of Chandel district Police, 8th MR, Forest Department along with 15th Assam Rifles destroyed a total of 140 acres of the illegal poppy plantation from February 28, 2023 to March 1, 2023  at Khongtal hill range. 

The team also burned down 27 huts that were used by the poppy cultivators, said a press note from the PRO, Manipur Police.

On Thursday (March2), a combined team of District Police Kangpokpi, MPTC, NAB, NCB, 6 IRB,  5 IRB and Forest department destroyed  12 acres of illegal poppy plantation in between Valpabung and Molkon hill range under the jurisdiction of Saikul Police Station. 

On the same day, under the supervision of SP Tamenglong, a combined team of Tamenglong district police, Forest Department, 39 AR, NAB , 87 CRPF, 7 IRB, and 5 MR  in presence of  SDO Tousem carried out an illegal poppy destruction drive at Kaimai Kuki village under Tousem Sub- Division,  TML District and destroy 21 acres of illegal poppy plantations. 

In continuation of the drive against illegal poppy plantations, a combined team in different districts destroyed a total of 173 (one hundred seventy-three) acres of illegal poppy plants, the press note added.
