Imphal: Churachandpur District Police team led by Inspector N. Thangzamuan, Officer-in-Charge, Churachandpur Police Station stopped a Tata Sumo with Regd. No. MNO7D-0263 coming from Sugnu side while conducting frisking and checking near the Rengkai Bridge, Churachandpur on May 6, at around 3 am.
While checking inside the vehicle one passenger was found very nervous and restless. On questioning, he disclosed that he is transporting contraband drugs concealed inside a white cooler machine. He identified himself as Thangkhomang Lhungdim (36 yrs) son of Thangkhogin Lhungdim of Joupi village, Chakpikarong, Chandel District.
He further told the police that the cooler was handed over to him by one Haopu at his shop in Joupi who promised him Rs 20,000 for transporting it to Churachandpur. The Vehicle and the person was taken to Churachandpur Police Station and on disassembling the cooler, 100 soap cases containing suspected No 4 Heroin Powder weighing about 1.335 Kgs approx. (including the weight of the plastic cover) was found hidden inside. The person was arrested and the soap case seized immediately after observing all formalities.
In this connection Churachandpur Police Station has registered a case for investigation.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of the Addl Superintendent of Police (Ops), Churachandpur and overall supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur District, as per a press note from the PRO Manipur Police, W Basu.
