Nagpur: Marketing Minister Abdul Sattar on Monday informed the Maharashtra Assembly that a proposal will be brought in the state cabinet regarding the problems of orange exporter farmers and an attempt will be made to give them relief.

While replying to a question raised by member Mohan Mate in the lower house, he said that orange exporters suffered financial losses due to increase in import duty by Bangladesh.

Consequently, many farmers had to send their orange crop to the local market instead of sending it overseas, he said.

As a result, the market price tumbled and for this, the state government has made a provision of Rs 169.60 crore and orange exporter farmers will definitely be given relief, the minister assured.
