Imphal: The fresh polls at six polling stations in the Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary constituency concluded on Tuesday with a record over 81 per cent voter turnout.

The Election Commission of India declared the polls conducted at six polling stations on 26 April as null and void and announced fresh elections in these stations on April 30.

Incidents of damage to electronic voting machines (EVMs), threats to voters and polling agents by armed miscreants and alleged rigging were reported during the second phase of polling in Manipur.

The repolling were conducted at 44/20-Shangshak A; 44/36-Ukhrul (A); 44/41-Ukhrul (D-1); 44/50-Ukhrul (F); 45/14-Chingai and 47/33-Oinam(A1).

Interestingly, 44/20-Shangshak A is the home polling station of Congress candidate Alfred Kanngam S Arthur.  Unconfirmed reports said the candidate himself couldn’t step out to exercise his franchise due to pressure and restriction from unknown armed miscreants.

Earlier, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) had complained to the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur that large-scale booth capturing, rigging of polls, forced voting/cast of votes and destroying of EVM were reported to nearly two dozen polling stations and demanded repolls in these stations.
