Imphal: The parents of Luwangbi Linthoinganbi Hijam and Phijam Hemajit Singh, who had been missing since July last year during the peak of ethnic clashes, have sought the intervention of the Manipur Governor to retrieve the bodies of the two students.

The family members, accompanied by former Minister Akoijam Mirabai, met with Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan on Monday to submit a memorandum regarding this matter.

The memorandum demanded the retrieval of the mortal remains of the deceased students, whose video went viral last year and called for stringent punishment against the accused, who are currently in CBI custody. The families also sought updates on the investigation’s progress.

Governor Uikey assured them that steps are being taken to ensure justice for the bereaved families. She contacted the DGP over the phone, urging further action to locate the students’ remains and to consult with the CBI. Additionally, she assured that a meeting with Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and the families would be arranged.

Senior entrepreneurs, led by N. Irabanta Singh, Chairman of UNACCO School, along with Dr. Kh. Palin and eight others, also met with Governor Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Monday evening. They submitted a memorandum requesting support for entrepreneurs in the state, highlighting the difficulties they face in loan repayment due to the ongoing turmoil over the past 14 months. This turmoil has severely impacted businesses, leading to significant financial strain.

The Governor listened to their concerns and assured them of possible support from Raj Bhavan. She also advised them to seek assistance from the Chief Minister, who is the state’s finance minister, to address their issues.

Additionally, a delegation from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, led by Gautam Philem, met with the Governor on Monday evening. They submitted a memorandum demanding the opening of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) colleges in every district of the state.

The delegation highlighted the inadequate infrastructure and manpower in the current education sector and emphasized the need for proper policy and planning to address these issues. They also raised concerns about the delayed disbursement of scholarships to students.

Governor Uikey assured the delegation that she would extend her support to address the needs of the student community in the state.
