Large chache of arms seized in Manipur

Imphal: In a series of coordinated operations, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and other paramilitary forces successfully recovered a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and war-like stores across multiple districts in Manipur. These operations were meticulously planned and executed with the aid of explosive detection dogs, metal detectors, and advanced equipment.

On August 28, 2024, acting on precise intelligence about insurgent activity in the Sekmaijin area of Kakching District, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police seized one Sten Mark-V rifle, two 12-bore single-barrel rifles, two 9mm pistols, nine hand grenades, and other war-like stores.

Continuing the operations, on August 30, 2024, in Kangpokpi district, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered one Soviet rifle, one locally manufactured rifle, a bolt action rifle, a .22 pistol, an improvised mortar, six Pompi guns, and additional war-like stores from Changsang near Sagolmang and Ekau Mullam near Saikul.

On September 1, 2024, joint forces made a major recovery that included one 51mm mortar, one MA-3 Mk-II rifle, an AK-47, two Lathode guns, a .303 rifle, six 9mm pistols, seven 12-bore single-barrel guns, two .22 rifles, twelve more 12-bore single-barrel guns, eleven Pompi guns, 49 improvised explosive devices, grenades, tear gas shells, ammunition, and other war-like stores. These items were found in the Manipur R Corridor, Molnom-Senam Hills, and Saivom Hills, covering Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, and Chandel districts.

These operations have resulted in the seizure of over 50 weapons, a large quantity of ammunition, and various other war-like stores. All recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation and disposal, according to a press release from the PRO (Defence), Manipur, Nagaland, and Southern Arunachal Pradesh.
