Imphal: Suspected cadres of the Kuki Independent Army (KIA) attacked a camp where militants under Suspension of Operation (SOO) were staying at Chongkhozou, Henglep SD, Churachandpur district, on Saturday night.
Police said around 15 militants dressed in camouflage fatigues raided the camp, overpowered a sentry, and took away arms and ammunition. Three others in the barrack were also roughed up and tied up. Arms and ammunition from UTLA, KNF-Z, and USRA cadres were taken away. They left behind one of their own country-made single-barrel, defective SBBL guns but took all the mobile phones of the four people present for camp security.
A person managed to untie himself and then helped others, and by Sunday they managed to alert their commander.
Police and Assam Rifles personnel rushed in to investigate the incident.
It may be noted that the Manipur government last week announced its commander-in-chief, Thangkhongam Haokip, alias Davidson alias Pareng Kom, as the ‘most wanted’ criminal in the state.
A cash reward of Rs 50,000 was also announced for information leading to his arrest or death. With agency inputs
