Kohima: The Kohima District Football Tournament began on Wednesday at Indira Gandhi stadium Kohima with Advisor Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Kicky Kire as the special guest.
Kire, urging all the players to enjoy the game said, “We all looked forward to such types of tournaments during our school days too and we had represented our schools and universities.”
He pointed out that Nagas often practice whenever there is a tournament around the corner but lack practice when such events are over. He asked every player to have discipline, patience, and determination so that they can become winners in the years ahead.
Altogether 28 High schools in Kohima District are participating in three disciplines which include Football, Badminton, and Table Tennis. 15 boys football team and seven girls football team are participating in football discipline.
Earlier Dr. Nicky declared the Kohima Inter-High School Tournament open. Secretary Youth Resources & Sports, Wezope Kenye was the chairman of the programme.
The first match of the Kohima Inter-High School District Football Tournament was played between Modern School and Mt. Hermon School.
