Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur Tuesday strongly criticised the Manipur government’s ‘No Work, No Pay’ circular and said that the GAD’s June 26 circular exposed the government’s constant piecemeal ploy to achieve force peace through terror tactics.
When the extremist Meiteis are baying for the blood of the Kukis, and when even their elected representatives were not spared, how could employees risk the hazard of going back to the valley where they escaped death by a whisker, the KIM asked in a statement.
The Kuki body further said going back to Imphal is a death trap for its people. The two warring ethnic communities-the Kuki and Meiteis- are now literally living in their own defined territories after the partition. Population exchange between the Kukis and Meiteis was witnessed. There is literally ‘no way’ to go back to Imphal, it added.
The KIM also lamented the non-fulfilment of the promises made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to the hill districts last month. Among his assurances to the people included deputing super-specialist doctors in the hill districts, removal of police commandos from Moreh, and helicopter service to connect the hills districts.
All these promises remained unfulfilled. The hapless Kuki tribal people are awaiting the realisation of these promises at the earliest.
While they are open to peace, KIM is steadfast in its stand that it would not be a part of any peace initiative under the present Biren Singh-led government, CSOs or individuals who orchestrated genocidal killings against the Kukis with the sole intention to obliterate the Kukis as people physically and politically.
