Kangpokpi district celebrates 78th I-Day with focus on cleanliness and development

Kangpokpi: The 78th Independence Day celebration, organized by the District Administration, took place at Brigadier Thomas Ground in Kangpokpi District. The event was marked by enthusiasm and patriotism as the Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi, Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, presided as the Chief Guest.

The celebration began with the Deputy Commissioner unfurling the National Flag while the National Anthem played in the background. Following this, he took the salute of a parade featuring 24 contingents from the Police, VDF, NCC, and various government and private schools. The parade was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi, SL Kamkhohao Lhouvum, MPS.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner extended warm wishes to the public on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day. He emphasized the importance of cleanliness in the district and underscored the need for a systematic approach to plastic waste collection and disposal. To support this initiative, the District Administration, in partnership with the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, distributed 20 plastic collection banks to town and village leaders, to be installed across the district.

The DC also highlighted the district’s active participation in the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan campaign, noting that around 25,000 flags were distributed to various offices, homes, medical centers, and police stations.

Encouraging the public to take advantage of government schemes, the DC assured that the district administration is fully committed to providing assistance in overcoming any challenges residents may face. He urged citizens to freely seek help and avail themselves of the numerous schemes available to them.

The Deputy Commissioner also expressed his gratitude to those working in relief camps, as well as to the Nodal officers, Police personnel, CAPF, and CRPF, among others. He thanked the people of the district for their cooperation and support in making the district’s development efforts successful.

The event concluded with the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to 72 government employees and others who contributed to the district’s progress. Cultural performances from the Lamhil Kuki Cultural Research Centre, Maohing Cultural Troupe, and Nepali Gurkha Dance Troupe added vibrancy to the occasion.

Notable attendees included SP Kangpokpi Manoj Prabhakar, IPS; N. Shokngam Baite, ADM, MCS; James Doujapao Haokip, MCS (CEO SH-ADC); DLOs, CSOs, and school students.
