Journalists’ team visits Manipur

During the meeting, Director (DIPR) H. Balkrisna Singh highlighted the achievements, activities, and schemes initiated by his directorate for the welfare of the journalists of the state.

Imphal: A three-member team of different journalists’ bodies visited the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), the government of Manipur, here on Thursday.

Geetartha Pathak, president of the Indian Journalists’ Union; MD Abdul Habi, joint secretary of the Indo-Bangla Journalists Forum; and Shahidul Islam, executive member of the Journalists’ Union of Assam, comprised the team.

The visiting journalists were warmly received by Director (IPR) H. Balkrisna Singh,  Deputy Director (Press) T. Ramesh Singh, Assistant Publicity Officer (Press) Kishan Longjam, President of AMJWU Wangkhemcha Shamjai, General Secretary of AMJWU, Khwairakpam Naoba, and other media persons of the state. Later, a meeting was jointly organised by the DIPR, Manipur, and the All Manipur Working Journalists Union, where the leaders shared information regarding the current status of working journalists in Manipur. 

During the meeting, Director (DIPR) H. Balkrisna Singh highlighted the achievements, activities, and schemes initiated by his directorate for the welfare of the journalists of the state. 

Maintaining that Manipur is one of the leading states in north-east India in the field of journalism, Balkrisna said that various initiatives and welfare schemes, such as the Journalists’ Welfare Scheme, the Journalists’ Pension Scheme, and Internal and External Exposure Press Tours, have been taken up by the directorate for the welfare of the journalists in the state. 

The official further stated that the state has produced several prominent journalists, who have been working actively even at the most crucial stages. He also stated that he will continue to put forth his best efforts for the benefit of journalists.

The Indian Journalists’ Union President also gave suggestions for the welfare and development of the journalist fraternity.

As a token of love and appreciation for their meeting, both sides exchanged traditional Lengyan Phi during the interaction programme.
