Imphal: Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of weapons and ammunition in the general area Oinam Sawombung in Imphal West district of Manipur, Assam Rifles, Special Operations Group Imphal West and Manipur Police launched a joint search operation on Saturday and recovered one 51 mm Improvised Mortar, one 9 mm Pistol, three grenades and other war-like stores, as per a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S).
Assam Rifles foils cross-border smuggling
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of areca nuts and timber in the general Aaea of Kangpat Centre, a search operation was launched on Friday.
The column intercepted nine Trucks illegally carrying areca nuts and Timber without valid documents, meant for unlawful distribution in the black market.
A total of 320 bags (approx weight 25.6 tons) of betel nuts, valued at Rs. 3.08 crore and timber (1120 cubic feet) valued at Rs. 8.96 lakhs lakh (total amount Rs. 3.16 crore) was seized and subsequently handed over to Forest Beat Officer, Kamjong District, as per a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S).
