Jiribam district marks India’s 78th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervor

Jiribam: The District Administration of Jiribam celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm on Thursday at the Jiribam Higher Secondary School Playground. Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS, graced the event as the Chief Guest.

The celebration began with the hoisting of the Tricolour by the Deputy Commissioner, followed by the National Anthem. DC Krishna Kumar inspected the parade contingents and took the salute from the marching units led by T. Inaobi Singh, SDPO Jiribam.

Four contingents, including the 87th Battalion CRPF, 7th Battalion IRB, Jiribam District Civil Police, and the combined band of the District Police and Fire Service, participated in the parade.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner acknowledged the recent unfortunate incidents in the district that displaced many residents, forcing them to seek shelter in relief camps. He assured the public that the Government is making every effort to provide essential services, including food, lodging, healthcare, and nutrition, to those in need.

The DC also emphasized the Government’s commitment to restoring and maintaining the communal harmony that has long been a hallmark of Jiribam District. He called on all citizens to come together in cooperation to preserve the district’s unique cultural fabric.

Recognizing the contributions of the Jiribam Forest Division, the DC commended their efforts in distributing 20,000 saplings to the public free of cost, as well as planting 1.3 lakh saplings this year. Additionally, the division organized awareness campaigns on forest fire prevention. The DC urged the community to continue working together to protect the district’s forests.

As part of the Independence Day celebrations, students from Jiri College presented various cultural performances. Banners promoting national unity and highlighting government schemes were displayed at the venue. Seedlings, CMHT cards, Manipur Old Age Pensions, and Chief Minister’s Widow Pensions were distributed to selected beneficiaries under various government programs.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to 90 public servants for their outstanding service to the district. Among the recipients were Parade Commander Th. Inaobi Singh, SDPO Jiribam, commanders of the participating contingents, and Flag Assistant Ch. Basanta Meitei, Head Constable, Civil Police, Jiribam. A special certificate of appreciation was also presented to the All Jiribam Working Journalist Union (AJWJU) for their selfless service. In addition, five ex-servicemen from the district were honored by the District Administration.

In a parallel event, the Tricolour was hoisted at the Bharat Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Seba Kendra, Jiribam CD Block, in honor of the day.

The celebration was attended by Sr. Superintendent of Police Jiribam, M. Pradip, CO 87th Battalion CRPF, CO 7th IRB, Additional SP Jiribam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jiribam, DLOs, government officials, and members of the public. Copies of the Manipur Today Special Issue, published by DIPR Manipur, were distributed to those present as part of the festivities.
