Jiribam: The Jiribam District Administration celebrated the 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour at the playground of Jiribam Higher Secondary School on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS, attended the programme as Chief Guest and unfurled the National Tricolour, followed by the National Anthem.
The Deputy Commissioner inspected the parade contingents and took the salute from 11 contingents drawn from central armed forces, district police, NCC units, educational institutions, and the Assam Rifles band. Tableaux from various departments showcasing developmental initiatives were also presented.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Krishna Kumar paid tribute to freedom fighters and highlighted key developmental initiatives in the district, including improved drinking water supply, housing under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin and Urban), and strengthened healthcare facilities. He informed that the district hospital has been equipped with advanced medical equipment and that a dialysis unit will soon be operational.
The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted initiatives on women empowerment and child welfare under schemes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Bal Vivah Mukta Bharat Abhiyan, along with the functioning of a 24×7 One Stop Centre for women. He spoke on agricultural training programmes, plantation drives under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” and good governance initiatives under the “Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore” campaign.
He further informed about efforts to ensure the welfare of internally displaced persons and commemorative programmes marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Concluding his address, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to the public to uphold peace, unity, and communal harmony in Jiribam district.
