Patna: JD(U) on Sunday authorised its supreme leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to make efforts for evolving unity among all opposition parties at the national level to oust the Narendra Modi government in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Briefing mediapersons after the party’s national council meeting, its National General Secretary K C Tyagi said Kumar has been authorised to evolve unity among opposition parties at the national level to ensure the exit of the Narendra Modi government in the 2024 general elections. Kumar was not a PM candidate, but a strong force to forge unity among all opposition parties, he clarified.
Quoting Kumar’s address at the national council meeting, Tyagi said he favoured unity among all opposition parties to get rid of the present central dispensation two years from now. Kumar pointed out that the present BJP leadership has deviated from the culture and style of functioning of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee era, Tyagi informed.
Tyagi said Telangana Chief Minister KCR Rao had recently visited Patna and talked to Kumar on the modalities of forging opposition unity at the national level.Â
“KCR was in favour of forging a non-Congress non-BJP alternative but Kumar advocated unity among all opposition parties to get rid of the BJP-led government”, Tyagi said, but evaded a direct reply whether the issue was resolved. It was a very early stage of talks on opposition unity and the picture would become clear in the days ahead, he noted.Â
