Patna: The Janta Dal ( U), a major alliance partner of NDA may be inducted into Union Cabinet and is likely to be expanded soon.
Sources close to the BJP indicated here on Wednesday that the Union Cabinet may be expanded after August 21.
The exit of RCP Singh from the Union cabinet following the expiry of his term in Rajya Sabha has triggered talks of induction of JD( U) in the Union Cabinet. RCP Singh was the lone face of the Modi government.
Meanwhile, JD( U) was expecting two berths in the cabinet expansion. Sources close to it gave ample indications that the party national president and Loksabha MP from Munger Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh was the prominent contender whereas MP from Nalanda Kaushlendra Kumar and MP from Purnia Santosh Kushwaha were also in the race.
The sources said that the issue could not be discussed during the recent visit of BJP national president JP Nadda and Union Home minister Amit Shah as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was suffering from Coronavirus infection. However, he has now tested negative for the infection and in the given situation, BJP may assign the task of negotiation to any of its senior leaders including Dharmendra Pradhan.
