Jammu: The Maulana Azad Stadium of the Union Territory’s winter capital is set to witness hustle-bustle after a long gap, the kind of action that remained absent during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 600 gymnasts will be taking part in the five days long 56th Junior National Artistic, 25th Rhythmic National (Men & Women) Gymnastic Championship and Khelo India Youth Games (selection trials) competitions scheduled to begin from November 22 here at New Indoor Hall of the stadia.
Around 26 teams from all over the country have confirmed their participation in these events to be held at the venue from November 22 to 26.
When contacted, President of Jammu and Kashmir Gymnastics Association, Kiran Wattal told UNI that this will be a mega competition that will be hosted in Jammu and Kashmir.
“It will be the first of its kind mega event to be organized here in which 600 gymnasts from different parts of the country will be participating,” Wattal said.
He said that world-class dedicated infrastructure for gymnastics, imported from France, is in place for conducting these competitions.
“Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has played an important and major role in converting the initiative into reality and by providing all support for an upcoming competition,” said Wattal, who was also the former Secretary, J&K Sports Council.
“Besides, all COVID protocols will be in place and the participants have to get their COVID negative test results and double dose vaccination reports on arrival,” he stated asserting that a special booth for on the spot COVID testing will also be established at the venue.
On November 6-7, more than 50 Gymnasts attended two-day selection trials for the 56th Junior National Artistic, 25th Rhythmic National Gymnastic Championship and Khelo India Youth Games.
