Itanagar: In a momentous event coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, the Arunachal Pradesh capital, Itanagar marked a remarkable milestone with the beginning of its first ever direct flight service to the national capital on Monday.
The introduction of direct flight service to Delhi by IndiGo Airlines, one of the fastest-growing low-cost carriers, is a testament to the growing importance being accorded by the Centre providing ease of connectivity to the frontier state, officials said.
State’s Civil Aviation Minister Nakap Nalo, who launched the direct flight service from Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar to Delhi, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for advancing air connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh to ensure ease of travel.
“With the continuous efforts of CM Pema Khandu Ji and blessings of PM Narendra Modi ji for advancing air connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh to ensure ease of travel, today happy to kick off first direct flight from Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar to Delhi,” the Civil Aviation Minister said in a social media post.
From now onwards, people can have hassle-free travel from Itanagar to Delhi and vice Versa, stated Nalo, who was joined by Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia, Hayuliang MLA Dassanglu Pul, Itanagar Mayor Tamme Phassang, Secretary (Civil Aviation) and Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has said that ever since inauguration of Donyi Polo Airport by PM Narendra Modi in November 2022, the distance of Delhi & other parts of the country from Itanagar has been cut short. “Truly, now Delhi is not far away!” Khandu has said.
The momentous occasion was marked by the cutting of a cake by the Civil Aviation Minister and other dignitaries.
“Good news for the travelers of Arunachal Pradesh and the country as whole. We the public of AP had never expected such historical developments could be possible in our state,” commented one Aying Tani Nalo.
