Mumbai: The Indian Navy is conducting a unique, one-of-a-kind 10 km run around the Heritage District of South Mumbai on 13th August 2022, with the aim of promoting the vibrant heritage of the city.

The event is seen as the inaugural edition of the Indian Navy Mumbai Heritage Run and is being organized as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, year-long festivities that mark India’s 75th year of Independence, said a statement by the press information Bureau here on Sunday.

Many buildings along the planned route are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, with the beautiful Victorian-Gothic and Art Deco ensembles.

In another unique feature, a companion mobile app is being developed to narrate to race-participants nuggets of information and interest of over 30 points of significance along the route. For members of the public, each of these thirty-odd iconic buildings will display narratives in text over the long weekend (13-15 August 2022), describing to them their heritage value. An interesting heritage walk is also planned along the 10 km route on the eve of the run and will remain open to the general public, the statement added.

Western Naval Command will be assisted by YouTooCanRun, who is also the race management partner. The Navy hopes to highlight to Mumbaikars several aspects of the picturesque architecture and iconic identity of South Mumbai through the run. The Navy is organizing the event in partnership with other stakeholders of Mumbai’s heritage legacy.
