New Delhi: In response to the anticipated impact of Cyclone Dana along the Odisha and West Bengal coasts, the Indian Navy is gearing up to carry out Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations.
The Eastern Naval Command, in coordination with the Naval Officers-in-Charge (NOIC) in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal, has activated a comprehensive disaster response mechanism. This involves close collaboration with units like the Base Victualling Yard (BVY), Material Organisation, and the naval hospital INHS Kalyani to ensure essential supplies and medical support are ready for deployment if requested by state authorities.
As part of the preparedness, HADR pallets containing essential items such as clothing, drinking water, food, medicines, and emergency relief materials have already been dispatched by road to key locations likely to be affected by the cyclone. Additionally, flood relief and diving teams are on standby to assist with coordinated rescue and relief operations if necessary.
Two Eastern Fleet ships are also on standby at sea, equipped with supplies, rescue teams, and diving units to support relief efforts from the water.
The Indian Navy is closely monitoring the situation and remains on high alert, ready to extend full support to civil authorities and aid those impacted by Cyclone Dana, according to a press release from the PRO (Defence) of Kohima, Imphal, and Arunachal Pradesh.
