New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has launched two advanced Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs), named ‘Adamya’ and ‘Akshar,’ each boasting over 60% indigenous content. These vessels, built by Goa Shipyard Ltd. (GSL), are part of an eight-vessel contract valued at Rs 473 crore. Designed to protect offshore assets and island territories, these FPVs enhance the ICG’s protection, monitoring, control, and surveillance capabilities.
Each FPV measures 52 meters in length and 8 meters in breadth, with a top speed of 27 knots, a Controllable Pitch Propeller propulsion system, and a displacement of 320 tons. Built to ICG’s stringent specifications, the ships meet dual-class certification standards from the American Bureau of Shipping and the Indian Register of Shipping.
For the first time, the vessels were launched simultaneously using a state-of-the-art Ship Lift System. Smt Priya Paramesh ceremonially inaugurated and named the FPVs in the presence of Director General ICG Paramesh Sivamani, accompanied by veterans and officials, with ‘Atharva Veda’ chants marking the event.
Director General Sivamani commended GSL’s role and the associated industries for supporting the ICG’s indigenization goals, emphasizing the importance of achieving self-reliance in defense. He congratulated GSL’s workforce on reaching this milestone, urging continued commitment to the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative in defense production.
The event also saw the attendance of GSL’s Chairman & Managing Director Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay and senior officials from the Indian Navy, ICG, GSL, and various certification societies.
