Indian Army rescues its abducted officer within hours in Manipur’s Thoubal district

Meanwhile, a combined force of Manipur police, Assam Rifles and BSF recovered one M-16 rifle, one 9mm pistol, four grenades, one single barrel rifle, and one improvised Long Range Mortar and war-like stores after a joint combing operation in Churachandpur district on Friday.

Kohima: The Indian Army Friday rescued one of its officers who was kidnapped by unidentified armed miscreants in Manipur’s Thoubal district. 

Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Naib Subedar Konsam Kheda Singh was kidnapped from his residence of Charangpat Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district by some unknown armed miscreants around 9 am on Friday.

The officer was on leave, the PRO and spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh said.

Following the incident, Army columns launched a coordinated joint search operation to rescue the JCO. The synergized efforts of the security forces resulted in the JCO being safely rescued at 6:30 PM. The JCO is currently at Waikhong Police Station (near Kakching) in Thoubal district. Manipur Police are investigating the incident, the officer added. 

Arms, ammunition recovered

Meanwhile, a combined force of Manipur police, Assam Rifles and BSF recovered one M-16 rifle, one 9mm pistol, four grenades, one single barrel rifle, and one improvised Long Range Mortar and war-like stores after a joint combing operation in Churachandpur district on Friday.  

The recovered weapons and war-like stores have been handed over to Churachandpur Police Station for further investigation, according to a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S)..
