Indian Army Colonel dies in road accident in Meghalaya

Shillong: A colonel in the Indian Army died on Tuesday evening in a hit-and-run case at Boucher Road, police said on Wednesday.

Colonel Ramesh Singh Rathore (49) of the 12 ARMD REGT and who was posted at the 101 Area in Upper Shillong was hit by a pick-up vehicle while he was taking a stroll at Boucher Road, a police official said.

Police said the Colonel was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and arrested the erring driver Kailash Rai and seized the vehicle.

The mortal remains of Colonel Rathore will be airlifted to his native place at Jaipur after completing all legal formalities.

The Defence PRO Guwahati condoled the demise of Col Ramesh Rathore and said that his son had recently joined the NDA.

“Body being taken to Jaipur on November 17 for last rites at Ghanau Sadulpur, dist Churu, a native village on 18 Nov. Second Generation offr. His son has just joined NDA. May God bless his soul and give strength to the family to bear this irreplaceable loss,” it said.
