IIM Shillong’s PGPEx hosts ‘Avinya’ 2024, highlighting AI and sustainability

Shillong: IIM Shillong’s Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPEx) successfully hosted its annual business conclave, ‘Avinya,’ on August 31 and September 1, 2024. This year, the event centered on the pivotal themes of artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability, underscoring their increasing relevance in today’s business world.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Rohit Joshi, Dean of Academics at IIM Shillong, reiterated the institute’s commitment to advancing innovation and sustainability through education, research, and industry partnerships.

The first day featured a panel discussion on “AI-Powered Talent Acquisition: Attracting and Hiring a Sustainable Workforce.” The panel included esteemed experts such as Asha Subramaniam, Global CHRO at Subex; Sanjeeb Lahiri, Chief HR Officer at GRP Ltd.; and Chetaan More, Director at Kantar’s Global Delivery Centre in India. They discussed how AI can optimize talent acquisition, minimize biases, and align recruitment with sustainability objectives, while also tackling the challenges of implementing AI in HR systems.

On the second day, ‘Avinya’ continued with additional engaging panels. One discussion, titled “The Human Element in AI-Powered HR: Empathy, Ethics, and Effectiveness,” featured insights from Ramakrishna Vyamajala, CHRO at HomeFirst; Deepti Mehta, Chief Human Resource Officer at Interface Microsystems; Aravind Warrier, HR leader at Volvo India; and Amreesh Kher, Chief Business Officer-Insurance at Tata Digital. This panel highlighted the importance of incorporating empathy, ethics, and effectiveness in AI-driven HR practices.

Another panel, “Sustainability as a Strategic Imperative: The Role of Leadership in Driving Change,” featured speakers like Himanshu Jessie Wadia, Director of IT Infrastructure & BSS at Amdocs; Nimish Gupta, Director at BCG X; Jagdish Narayanan, Chief Technology Officer at Equifax India; and Arun Jain, Country Service Delivery Leader at Keysight Technologies. The discussion focused on the role of leadership in driving sustainability initiatives and aligning technology with sustainable business practices.

‘Avinya’ showcases IIM Shillong’s commitment to leading conversations on cutting-edge trends and technologies shaping industries and society. The institute remains focused on promoting innovation, sustainability, and leadership through its PGPEx and other initiatives.
