Shillong: IM Shillong, in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, recently conducted a Management Development Program (MDP) specifically designed for District Tourism Officers (DTOs) and Tourism Information Officers (TIOs) of Arunachal Pradesh.

This program, held at the IIM Shillong Satellite Centre in Tawang, marks a significant effort to enhance professional development, stimulate economic growth, and promote sustainable tourism practices throughout the state.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the IIM Shillong Satellite Centre in Tawang has emerged as a knowledge hub dedicated to empowering local administrators and improving governance in Arunachal Pradesh. Partnering with the Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis, IIM Shillong has launched various initiatives focused on sustainable development and community empowerment.

Previously, IIM Shillong has successfully conducted similar programs for senior administrative officers from Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi. Now, it extends its expertise to the tourism sector, demonstrating its commitment to fostering innovation and empowering local communities through effective governance practices.

Brigadier V. S. Rajput, Commander of the 190 Mountain Brigade in Tawang, attended the program as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized Tawang and Arunachal Pradesh’s potential as premier tourist destinations, highlighting the importance of leveraging natural resources, preserving cultural heritage, improving infrastructure, and adopting sustainable tourism practices to drive economic growth and community well-being.

K. N. Damo, Director of the Tourism Department, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, highlighted the crucial role of such training programs in shaping the future of tourism in the region. He encouraged participants to apply their new knowledge to propel Arunachal Pradesh as a leading tourism hub.

The MDP is structured around three key dimensions: Economic Development, Marketing Strategies, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants are encouraged to integrate these dimensions into their roles to foster inclusive growth and elevate Arunachal Pradesh on the global tourism stage.

Through its satellite centre in Tawang and the APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis, IIM Shillong remains committed to driving sustainable development and fostering innovation in India’s North-Eastern region.
