IAF to conduct week-long training exercise in eastern sector

The exercise, which will run until November 5, will comprise application of air power in all its roles and will be conducted by day and night.

Shillong: Eastern Air Command (EAC) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) will conduct its annual command-level exercise, Ex Poorvi Akash, from October 30, a defence official said on Wednesday.

The exercise, which will run until November 5, will comprise application of air power in all its roles and will be conducted by day and night.

“The exercise also comprises joint operations with Eastern Command (EC) of Indian Army in the challenging mountainous terrain and will involve activation of the entire eastern Sector,” Shillong-based PRO Defence, Wing Commander, Sreeprakash J said.

He said the Special Forces of the IAF, the Garuds, will participate in special missions along with the army’s Special Forces.

“Air Defence assets of Indian Army and Indian Air Force will also be deployed to simulate a realistic battle scenarios. All major fleets of IAF will be participating in the exercise along with special mission aircraft,” Wing Commander, Sreeprakash said.

Headquartered in Shillong, the Eastern Air Command is one of its five operational commands of the Indian Air Force and controls air operations over a vast area that straddles 12 states on the eastern sector. Its area of responsibility includes a 6300 km-long international boundary with China, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
