Bishnupur: Hon’ble Home Minister, Government of Manipur, Govindas Konthoujam, along with Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur Pooja Elangbam and other District Level Officers (DLOs), today distributed benefits to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Mangolnganbi Relief Camp, Ningthoukhong.

Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Home Minister stated that the distribution programme is being organised under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, with the objective of extending all possible assistance to the IDPs. As part of the initiative, a sum of ₹2,420 is being provided to each IDP through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to support the purchase of mattresses and other essential personal items.

The Home Minister further informed that, as previously assured by the Government, ₹1 lakh will be provided to every IDP household. Of this, ₹25,000 has already been distributed in the first phase. From the remaining ₹75,000, an amount of ₹20,000 will now be disbursed through DBT starting today.

Emphasising the importance of improving living standards, Govindas Konthoujam appealed to all IDPs to avail themselves of the benefits offered under various developmental schemes implemented by different departments. He highlighted the need to invest in education and nurture more educated individuals to build a peaceful and progressive society. Together, let us work towards building a peaceful and prosperous Manipur, he urged, calling upon all to join hands in bringing positive change to society.

In her keynote address, DC Bishnupur Pooja Elangbam expressed her gratitude to the Hon’ble Home Minister and all the DLOs for their support in improving the lives of the IDPs. She clarified that the ₹2,420 credited through DBT is being provided as additional special support to all IDPs.

She also stated that the programme serves as an important platform for direct interaction between IDPs and district officials, enabling on-the-spot redressal of grievances. Referring to earlier livelihood initiatives, she mentioned that the District Administration had distributed looms to support income generation and encouraged the IDPs to share their ideas and suggestions for further assistance.

As part of the programme, dummy cheques were handed over to selected beneficiaries, while the special assistance amounts were credited directly to their respective bank accounts.

During the interactive session, IDPs raised concerns related to health, livelihood opportunities, and income enhancement. The DLOs present created awareness about various government schemes and guided them on how to avail the available facilities.
