Governor Uikey lauds Manipur Govt’s ‘swift response’ after hailstorm hits state

Chief Minister N Biren Singh Monday stated that over 15,000 houses were damaged by the hailstorm.

Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey expressed deep concern and sympathy to all the people in Manipur who were badly affected by the heavy rains accompanied by a hailstorm and gusty wind that wreaked havoc in several parts of the state on Sunday, last week.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh Monday stated that over 15,000 houses were damaged and huge seasonal crops got destroyed by the hailstorm.

In view of the crisis, he said, his government has opened over 40 relief camps and has sanctioned Rs 6.9 crore through district magistrates. The Chief Minister also said that Rs 50 lakh each will be allocated for the valley districts and Rs 40 lakhs for hill districts.

N Biren Singh also warned shop owners not to sell above the prices of all the essential commodities including steel tin sheets.

The Governor further lauded the swift response of the State Government for providing immediate relief assistance to the victims.
