Imphal: Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other political leaders greeted the people of the State on the occasion of Sajibu Nongmapanba (Cheiraoba), Manipuri New Years’ Day, 2021, which is to be celebrated tomorrow.
“The New Year is an occasion for the people to rejoice and look forward to the future with hope. It’s the time for making resolutions to usher in a year of peace and harmony in the state. I also look forward to the New Year as the harbinger for a happy and prosperous of life for all the people in the state irrespective caste, creed and religion,” said the governor in her message.
Stating that Sajibu Cheiraoba and Cheiraoba mark the beginning of the new year for believers of Sanamahi and Vaishnavism amongst the Meitei community, Chief Minister Biren said that the old year has been a stressful one with the Covid pandemic affecting all of us, old and young, men and women, rich and poor. The impact has been different on different people. Times of difficulty are however great teachers. What we have learnt must inspire us to grow into better and stronger men and women, and travel onwards and upwards with resilience and pride, Biren added.
Th Biswajit Singh, Work Minister, in his message, said Sajibu Nongmapanba Cheiraoba is observed on the first day of the Manipuri Lunar month of Sajibu, which falls on April 13 this year.
This Cheiraoba symbolizes the advent of a New Year and is a unique festival celebrated by every household with great enthusiasm in the state. Today, as we are facing the second wave of Covid outbreak let us stay strong and fight it back to emerge victorious by adhering to the SOP issued by the experts and government, he added.
Extending his heartiest greetings and warm wishes to the people of the state, Agriculture Minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh said this Cheiraoba symbolizes the heralding of New Year and rekindles hopes for a better life which is observed with great enthusiasm and gaiety.
In his message, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Minister Th Satyabrata Singh prayed for peace, happiness and prosperity in our lives.
