Former Meghalaya police officer joins BJP

Shillong: Former Meghalaya-Assam cadre IPS officer Mariahom Kharkrang on Saturday joined the BJP at the party’s Meghalaya headquarters in Shillong in the presence of Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and BJP General Secretary (Organisation) B. L. Santosh.

Kharkrang took voluntary retirement with the sole intention to contest the 2023 Meghalaya assembly elections from the North Shillong assembly constituency.

Union Minister Meghwal, Meghalaya cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai, BJP General Secretary (Organisation) B. L. Santosh and veteran BJP legislator Alexander Laloo Hek, state BJP president Ernest Mawrie welcomed Kharkrang to the BJP fold.

“I have joined BJP for development and I am aspiring to contest the assembly elections,” Kharkrang said.
