Imphal: All the major rivers in Manipur were flowing at flood level and many places were inundated by flood.
The Imphal Jiribam highway remains disconnected due to collapse of a bailey bridge while movement in Imphal Mao highway was affected as the Motbung bridge was damaged. The national highways were controlled by the centre and the state government has urged the centre to repair the bridges.
Chief Minister N Biren said due to incessant rains in the last few days, the State is facing issues like floods, landslides in some areas, but the government is fully prepared for any eventuality.
He said the government is monitoring the situation 24X7, and required relief is being provided through the concerned DCs. Stating that this is a seasonal occurrence, he urged the people to face it together.
The Chief Minister further appealed to the people of the State to ensure that the drainage around their homes isn’t clogged.
Landslides aggravated by rainfall and heavy deforestation have affected life in the hill areas. Telephone , electricity supplies remained disrupted. The major rivers in the state like Nambul, Imphal, Iril, Thoubal Manipur rivers were running dangerously, the overflowed water flowing in the main roads and many government offices, houses, shops were submerged.
Large numbers of houses at Naoremthong, Iroisemba, Uripok, Sagolband, Wangkhei, Thangmeiband and other places were affected.
