Agartala: An hour after joining Trinamool Congress as many as five people including a three-year-old child were injured seriously on Thursday night allegedly in an attack of ruling BJP goons at Kathalbari village under Surma constituency of Dhalai district where by-poll to be held on June 23 next.

Three of the injured persons have been shifted to Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) at night following the deterioration of their condition.
Nobody is arrested so far in connection with the incident; although a specific case was registered identifying the criminals immediately after the attack, said TMC state in-charge Rajib Banerjee.

“The victims Brajaballav Malakar, Dipak Malakar, Tapas Malakar and Abhinash Malakar along with over a hundred people joined TMC deserting BJP in the poll meeting at a local market in the evening. At night BJP cadres stormed their houses and carried out dreaded attacks on them where a three-year-old sleeping child was injured badly. They left the place following organized resistance by the villagers, but police didn’t perform their duty properly; otherwise, all of them could have been arrested,” Banerjee alleged.

He claimed BJP became nervous with the response of Trinamool Congress in the by-poll bound constituencies after the latter party jumped in the state with full force to prevent BJP in the next election and this was the sole reason for attacking Trinamool and added, “They (BJP) don’t know our zeal and commitment – we are not fake patriot like BJP leaders. It would be a different by-poll in India.”

Banerjee however, underlined that from the very first day TMC workers have been targeted by BJP goons, TMC national general secretary and MP Abhisekh Banerjee was attacked at least five times in Tripura, TMC state President Subal Bhowmik was attacked several times, his house and vehicles were ransacked but BJP led government didn’t take any action against the attackers rather, sheltered them.

“Not only TMC but all the opposition parties have also been attacked in Tripura over the last four years. Now, people have decided to oust this corrupt and undemocratic government in the next assembly elections, which will be started by these by-elections. BJP would not be able to win a single seat whatever means they apply,” Banerjee added.

He said that Trinamool Congress has released a charge sheet against the BJP-led government in Tripura on Wednesday, as it failed to deliver on the promises made in its 2018 manifesto, no initiative to solve the problem of 10,323 terminated teachers, no effort in improving TTAADC areas.

TMC will release a constituency-wise charge sheet soon to expose how the BJP government has failed at all levels, Banerjee said adding, “We conducted a survey and people complained that under the present government there had been multiple issues such as a drinking water crisis, poor road infrastructure and lack of amenities. The unemployment rate in Tripura has increased to 17.4 percent, which is much higher than the national average of 7.1 percent.”
