Imphal: Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur Monday felicitated the exiled heroes of Anglo Manipur War 1891 and their families as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at a function held at Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College, Palace Compound, Imphal.
Taking part as functional President, Commissioner of Art & Culture, M.Joy Singh, IAS said that we got an opportunity to get a sense of patriotism and sacrifice today by paying tribute to these exiled heroes.

He said, “When we stand together, no one can destroy or interfere with the integrity of the state which our forefathers had given to us.”
He added that we should all work together to save the integrity of the state without the difference of religions or communities. Those unsung heroes who took part in the Anglo-Manipur War remind us of their supreme sacrifice made for the state, he further stated. Later, the Commissioner administered a pledge as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Naoroibam Indramani, President, The Historical & Cultural Research Centre took part in the function as Chief Guest. He said that Manipur has a long history and we should respect these unsung Heroes.
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Department of Art & Culture Government of Manipur felicitated twenty-three (23) heroes and their families who were exiled to Andaman & Nicobar Islands after the 1891 Anglo Manipur War. As a mark of respect to these heroes, shawls and mementoes were presented to the family members.
