Imphal: Athuan Abonmai, former president of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), who was allegedly abducted from Tamenglong on Wednesday morning was found dead at Pallong village, 7 km from Tamenglong district headquarters.
Sources said that Abonmei, a public figure, yet controversial among the Zeliangrong community, was allegedly kidnapped in full public view by unknown armed miscreants suspected to be a hill-based militant group on Wednesday morning at the gate of a programme where Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh was supposed to participate.
Later at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday, his lifeless body was found at Pallong village, sources added.
