Bulandshahr (UP): Former MLA Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment by a special court in Bulandshahr district here in Uttar Pradesh, a prosecution officer said here on Friday.
Special Public Prosecutor Hitendra Kumar Verma said that in the year 2011 Rakesh Sharma, a resident of Halpura village under Shikarpur police station, lodged a complaint that he campaigned against the then MLA Guddu Pandit in Dibai assembly segment.
He said, “The complainant alleged that he himself wanted to contest the election from Dibai, but Guddu Pandit pressurised him not to do so and even threatened to get him killed in an encounter.”
Verma said that the complainant alleged that the then MLA demanded extortion money from him several times over phone and threatened to face consequences for failing to do so.
“Sharma gave a CD of his conversation with Guddu Pandit to the senior police officers,” he said.
He said that on the basis of evidence available on record the special MP-MLA court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Vinay Kumar held Guddu Pandit guilty and sentenced him to 14 months imprisonment. The court later granted him bail.
It may be noted that Guddu Pandit was elected MLA from Dibai assembly seat twice, once on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket and then as Samajwadi Party (SP) nominee.
