Elephant kills Madhyamik candidate on his way to exam centre in N Bengal

Jalpaiguri:Arjun Das, a Madhyamik candidate from Rajgonj in Jalpaiguri district in north Bengal, was killed on Thursday by an attack from a waylaid wild elephant while the teenager was passing through the jungle road to his examination centre, official sources said.


The deceased father, who was riding a motorcycle to reach his son on time, was seriously wounded and admitted to a local hospital, they added.


Arjun Das, a 10 class student of Panchiram Nahata School was the pillion rider on way to the examination centre at Cablepara High School at Belakoba, was picked up by the pachyderm from its trunk and flung on the floor before stamping on its victim this morning.


Before the second attack on the deceased father, he shouted for help and was rescued by the local people who reside there.


The deceased was taken to the Jalpaiguri Super Speciality Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.


The father and son took short cut trails through the jungle to reach on time to the examination centre and avoided the highway.


The final examination of Madhyamik (class 10) under the West Bengal Secondary Education Board begins today.
