Kangpokpi, the 3 rd December 2022:Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) campaigns with the slogan ‘No Voter To Be Left Behind’ were held today at various locations in the three assembly constituencies namely 46-Saikul (ST), 50-Kangpokpi, 51-Saitu (ST) of Kangpokpi district.
Campaigns were held at Thangtong Higher Secondary School & Good Samaritan Public School in Saikul Assembly Constituency (AC), Diamond English High School & Parizeau Maranathan Academy in Kangpokpi AC and Mega Public School, Motbung in Saitu AC. SVEEP materials were also distributed to differently-abled persons on occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Saitu AC.
Deliberation on election process by dedicated Assistant Electoral Officers with students, quiz and games were part of the activities of the ELC campaigns, followed by distribution of t-shirts and caps
to the students. It is worth mentioning here that, an Electoral Literacy Club is a platform to engage school students through interesting activities and hands-on experience to sensitise them on their electoral rights and
familiarise them with the electoral process of registration and voting. ELC are also present in colleges and rural communities.
At ELCs, learning meets fun. Activities and games are designed to stimulate and motivate students provoking them to think and ask questions. Through ELC, Election Commission of India (ECI), aims at strengthening the culture of electoral participation among young and future voters.
In the Kangpokpi district, ELC District Committee has been formed with District Election Officer/Deputy Commissioner as the Chairperson. EROs/SDOs are the chairperson for the ELC AC Level Committee. On the other hand, eight (8) schools have been identified as ELCs – three (3)
schools in 46-Saikul AC, two (2) in 50-Kangpokpi AC and three (3) in 51-Saitu AC.
