DoT to proliferate Broadband through PM-WANI

The PM-WANI framework will facilitate ease of doing business and encourage local shops and small establishments to become Wi-Fi Hotspot providers Public Data Office (PDO).

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Department of Telecom (DoT) to proliferate Broadband through Public Wi-Fi networks under the framework of the Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI).

The PM-WANI framework will facilitate ease of doing business and encourage local shops and small establishments to become Wi-Fi Hotspot providers Public Data Office (PDO).

The local shops and small establishments as PDOs may earn extra income from selling the internet without any requirement of license, registration, and/or any fees to DoT.

DOT NE LSA unit proposes to organize the next virtual meet on PM-WANI on March 14, 2024 (Thursday) at 11:30 hrs for increased awareness of all existing and prospective stakeholders. Interested existing/prospective PDOs/PDOAS/Citizens may submit their willingness to join along with suggestions/ feedback at email ID admnp.nelsa- dgt-dot@gov.in in this regard. 

The link for the virtual meeting will be shared with all interested participants in due course, according to a press note from the Addl. DG Telecom, NE LSA, Department of Telecommunication.
